Seventh District Congressman Nick Smith (R-Addison) announced today his nominations to the United States Service Academies. Rep. Smith formed the 7th District Academy Review Board to evaluate the students applying for his nomination. These 12 judges, who all reside in the district and have some military background, decide each applicant's overall suitability to attend the Air Force, Naval, Military or Merchant Marine Academy based on academic achievement, test scores, physical fitness, and leadership potential. After reviewing the application packets, the judges interview each student and determine who merits a nomination. The nomination is just one factor in the selection process of the individual academies, which then offer appointments to the most qualified students. |
