04/02/2004 Smith Statement on the Transportation Bill
Congressman Nick Smith (R-Addison) explained on the House floor some of his problems with the Transportation Bill, H.R. 3550. The bill would reauthorize federal transportation programs for six-years. It passed the House today. Smith made the following floor statement:
03/17/2004 Smith Says No to Federal Gas Tax Increase
Congressman Nick Smith (R-Addison) said today that a federal gas tax increase this year was a no-go. Congress is currently considering several proposals to reauthorize the highway bill (TEA-21) and several of them would raise federal gas taxes.

U.S. Representative Nick Smith (R-MI) today spoke about the Eaton County train derailment. Smith said, "I have been in communication with the Canadian National Railroad (CN) and the Eaton County Sheriff’s office regarding residents’ safety."
06/14/2001 Smith Comments on I-73 Study
Representative Nick Smith (R-MI) today encouraged Governor John Engler and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Director, Gregory Rosine, to support more Michigan funds for improvements to US-127, south of Jackson, and US-223. In his letter to Governor Engler, Smith said, "I strongly urge you to include improvements for this project in the MDOT 5-year plan. The necessary planning and environmental studies should be completed promptly."
10/06/2000 Smith Announces Funds for W.K. Kellogg Airport and Calhoun County
U.S. Rep. Nick Smith (R-Addison) announced today that important funding to relocate the control tower at the Battle Creek, W.K. Kellogg Airport, and implement an advance warning and information sign system at the I-69/I-94 intersection, was included in the annual Transportation Appropriations bill passed by the House earlier today.
